Can The Grease!

Fats, Oils, and Greases are not just bad for arteries and waistlines; they are bad for sewers too!

Sewer pipes blocked by grease will cause sewer overflows.  Backups can cause health hazards, damage to your home interior and is a threat to our environment.

Grease gets into the sewer from household drains as well as from poorly maintained grease traps in restaurants and other businesses.

Cooking grease from fats, oil, food scraps, butter and dairy products washed down the sink sticks to the insides of sewer pipes.  Beware: Home garbage disposals do not keep grease out of the plumbing system.

The results of putting grease down your sink can cause raw sewage to overflow into your home.  An expensive and unpleasant cleanup often must be paid for by you the home or business owner.   Raw sewage can overflow into parks, yards and streets causing serious health risks.

What you can do to help:

  • DON’T pour grease down sink drains or into toilets;
  • DO Scrape grease and food scraps into a can or trash for disposal.
